Program Maximum:

Each program has a maximum number of people that are accepted into the program. When the program is full it is then closed to additional participants. Programs fill up quickly so register early. SRS will be happy to recommend alternative program ideas.

Registration:

Registration is accepted on a first come first accepted basis.  Registration needs to be in the SRS office to be considered.  This means if you mail in your registration, mail it early enough so that it is received by the first day of registration to ensure your slot in a program. If you register at a Park District drop it off before the first day of registration. It will be picked up by SRS staff and brought to the office by the first day of registration.

ADA Compliance:

Special Recreation Services (SRS) complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability.  SRS will make reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability who meet essential eligibility requirements.

Cancellations:

A program may be canceled if the enrollment consists of less than the minimum class size.  If a program is canceled, participants will be notified and given the option of being credited for the program fee or enrolling in another.

Leisure Education:

SRS offers Leisure Education programs for special education classrooms.  SRS staff will come to the school and instruct the class in programs varying from cooking, bowling, miniature golf, arts n’ crafts, and fitness.  Program goals include introduction to new leisure experiences, socialization, and of course, FUN!!!  Minimal fees are assessed for these programs.  Some programs are held outside of the classroom and transportation to and from the program is available.  Make your teacher aware of these great programs and SRS staff will visit you at school.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will be given if the class or activity is canceled by SRS or for participant medical reasons.  Once a program has begun, no refunds will be given. Payments of refunds, as reflected within SRS policy shall be processed at the earliest possible date. Some programs may need to be canceled if weather conditions are unsafe.  In these situations a partial refund may only be available due to a financial commitment to another party.

Scholarship:

Special Recreation Services (SRS) has financial assistant available for in-district participants whom might otherwise be denied the opportunity to be involved in programs.  For more information, or to receive a scholarship form, please contact the SRS office at (708) 596-9823.  Vacations and overnight weekend trips are not eligible for scholarship consideration. Scholarships are available to in-district residents only.

Inclusion Process:

SRS is committed to providing new and challenging leisure and recreation activities for all our participants.  Therefore, we recognize that a park district or recreation department program may better serve an individual's needs.  SRS works with our member districts to assist individuals in making the transition into programs.  Our staff will assist with choosing the most appropriate program, referral services, and staff training.  If you are interested in a park district or recreation department program, please call the SRS office such that we may assist you in your participation.

Wait Policy:

SRS Transportation at scheduled sites will only wait five (5) minutes after the scheduled meeting time for any late participants.  SRS staff try their best to have programs run smoothly and on time.  Thanks for your cooperation!!!!
