2ND ANNUAL GOLF OUTING A SUCCESS!

(Glenwood)  New Hope's 2nd Annual Golf Scramble Tournament was held on Friday, July 18, at Glenwoodie Golf Club in Glenwood.  What a beautiful day it was, or at least until the sudden downpour at 3:30 PM!  Despite the surprise from Mother Nature, everyone enjoyed themselves.

There was an overwhelming response this year having 90 golfers on the course, which is up from 60 golfers last year.  Golfers and volunteers were treated to a hot luncheon and a buffet dinner.  Complimentary beverages were provided on the course and at the club house.  There were two hole-in-one chance giveaways, a Ford Mustang sponsored by Webb Ford, and also a circle betting hole to double your money, which was sponsored by the employees of New Hope Center.  Many chanced their skills, but no one shot a hole-in-one for the sought-after Mustang.

After about 12 holes of golf, the rain forced most groups back to the club house to take cover.  One volunteer, Doreen Horney, after being reported missing back at the club house, was later found relaxing in the Ford Mustang with the radio blasting.  About 12 golfers actually braved the weather and finished the course.

In consideration of the uncompleted score cards, and in an effort to be fair, New Hope drew score cards to give away the prizes that were intended for the low net group.  Fortunately, they were able to finish the putting contest between the rain drops, and Mark Haines was hailed the winner.

Over all, this year’s Golf Outing raised about $14,000 for New Hope's programs.  Sponsorships and donations account for more than half the event’s revenue.  Green fees account for about 25%.  The remaining revenue comes from several opt-in events offered throughout the day, which included raffle chances, the putting contest, and the two betting holes.
